Mi Box S dropping Wi-Fi connection

by nyuszika7h

I bought a Xiaomi Mi Box S and it's intermittently dropping the Wi-Fi connection. When it does work I get 4 bars. I'm streaming video from SMB on LAN with Kodi and sometimes it works fine for a long time but then it starts buffering or completely stopping playback because the network is disconnected. It also happens with other apps, and sometimes the Wi-Fi network state is randomly changed to "Disabled" or it says the saved password is incorrect. This happens with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

My box did the same thing. Ended up buying a cheap usb to ethernet adapter and haven't had any issues since.

I never read my wifi disable, but it really has a crap antenna - IPTV streams wouldn't stream (720p or above). Netflix would because of the way it streams (small chunks) but a continuous stream? Forget it.

Used Ethernet. Was worried it wouldn't work. But it works - much, much better. Disabled wifi and left ethernet running. Problem solved.

Edit: I have no idea what I wrote in the first sentence, nor do I still know what on Earth I was trying to write. Total derp moment. Everything starting from "crap antenna" is correct, though. And made a typo correction elsewhere.

Mi box has the most shittest antenna I would strongly recommend switching to ethernet

Mi Box does not like the upper Wi-Fi channels, this applies to both 2.4 and 5 Ghz. If using 2.4 Ghz, set the router to not use anything higher than channel 9, or higher than channel 48 if using 5 Ghz. Almost all routers will also automatically jump between different channels depending on the congestion. So even better if you manually set it to a specific channel, so that it remains locked to the set channel at all times.

I hus the mi box on wifi and I can stream even 50 gb files with no problem through internet and stable.

Often it’s not always the antenna itself but also crappy wifi of people at home.

No fault of MiBox.

Issues are with Wifi connections

I actually just hard-wired my MiBox this weekend, as the combination of it's crappy antenna and the fact I had it hiding behind the wall-mounted TV meant it'd been acting even worse than usual.
