Hello there,
Currently living in a place near 40k city, but somehow the best internet I can get (for real) is 10/10 adsl so 1,2MBPS real download speed. Is it worth buying a mi box s in this case?
I own a TCL TV with Netflix, and I must say it's working like a charm with FHD films, no buffering at all, connected to the TV by RJ45 ethernet cable, same with YouTube. And it doesn't even feel like if someone was watching FHD films on 65'' screen. I guess i'll need a USB-RJ45 adapter to get a stable 1,2mbps and don't saturate the network for other person in the house.
The thing is, I want to get rid of my TV subscription and replace it with a Mi Box, but I wonder if my internet will handle it.
Thank's!
First thing; No such thing as 10/10 ADSL. ADSL is 8 down and 0,8 up. Even giving you the benefit of the doubt and assume you mean ADSL2+, the best you'd get is 20 down and 1,4 Mbps up.
Secondly; If you only stream HEVC (H.265) content (which the Mi Box S handles perfectly), your bandwidth of 10 Mbps would not be a big problem if your desired quality is FHD. As an example, if you downloaded directly from Netflix themselves, the last season of The Punisher in 1080p averaged 5,8 Mbps.
Thirdly; Using WiFi or cable doesn't matter when it comes to other people connected to the same Internet connection. If you stream 10 Mbps from Netflix, and you only have 10 Mbps available from your ISP, the other person in your house will have 0 bps available. How you are connected to your CPE doesn't matter, because it's the connection from your CPE to your ISP that is the bottleneck.
Lastly; If you want higher bitrates and higher resolutions on your 10 Mbps down Internet connection, you could always just download the content to a server in your home and watch it from there (or store it on the small storage that the Mi Box S has locally). That would allow you to utilize your bandwidth even when you're sleeping/working/studying/commuting etc.
