I'm not that familiar with Android TV but I use voice commands with Google Home a lot.

Android TV should work with voice command like pause and play, and volume at the minimum.
Mi box s has build in Google assistant, if your TV support pass through hmdi CEC you can tell your Google home to turn on/off your TV.
I would just get an Nvidia shield. It ties into google assistant and you can connect it to any TV.
Next year's models will probably have far field mics and act like Google Home now https://twitter.com/androidtv_rumor/status/1063043447735619584/photo/1
I have a Roku and that works fairly well with Google Home.
Some LG TVs have Google Assistant integration and can be controlled with Google Home

It's a bit clunky. You have to give the TV a name, like "Living Room", and say "Hey Google, ask LG to turn the living room TV on"
Sony X930E - Apple HomePod - Siri Shortcuts
Hey Siri “TV ON “ = turns tv on Hey Siri “TV OFF” = turns tv off
Hey Siri “Entertainment on/off” = turns on/off HuePlay bars and Hue Go’s
Hey Siri “Assistant” = activates remote google assistant if I don’t want to touch Sony remote
Hey Siri “YouTube/Netflix/Prime” = opens app
Also Volume up/down , Channel up/down , TV/Home , HDMI input
These are the commands I use most with HomePod....but if I just use the remotes Google Assistant I don’t have to say Hey Google ...only the command for example :
“Open Kodi” or another app = opens app “Goodnight” = turns Hue’s off and tv off And all the above accept hdmi input
Google Home should do the same with help from IFTTT
My Android TV from TCL now respond to power off and on function as well as volume and switch channel
Sony Bravias run android TV w/google assistant, the remotes have mics built in.
