When I enter the menu where I can update I get three options
- update through network

- update locally

- update through channel

When I try pressing update through network I get a message which states "Update is unnecessary".

The TV is currently running on anroid version 6.0.1

On TCL's website they state that the TV supports both android version 7 and 8

I have tried searching for a download for both ver 7 and 8 without results. I found this archived post https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/7onwh9/new_tcl_can_i_upgrade_from_atv_601/

But those downloads seem to be for some other models.

I also found a file on TCL's website called "V8-T658T01-LF1V528" in it there is a readme which says:

Please check the current installed software version on your TV. If the software version is V3XX, then you can update your TV to Android version O (V5XX). If the software version is V5XX, your TV is already with Android version O but you can update with this last version (V528). If the software version is V1XX, Do not update your TV with this software and contact TCL.

The current version on my TV is V173.
