Which TV do you have? All the AndroidTV versions should have access to the Google Play Store already. They just don't show all the apps because the developers have to state they are AndroidTV compatible and not all of them bother. You can "sideload" the apps if you want to deal with "issues" that can be undetectable all the way up to unexecutable.
Free apps are usually available from APK Mirror. I just download them from Chrome on the TV and install from there, but you can also use a USB stick.
