4 is Android 8.1 not 8.0 And it has a new remote not much different from the old one the shape of it is a little squarer and that's it I think they both work great with that said I'm not watching anything in 4k on them people say they struggle with 4k I didn't experience that but it's rare I watch 4k with them I have both by the way
I've known the Mi Box 3 to be the original that is now updated to Android TV ver 8.0
The Mi Box S is known as the Mi Box 4 and has 8.1 Android TV and the remote is different.
Only the 2016 Mi Box (model MDZ-16-AB) and the 2018 Mi Box S (model MDZ-22AB) are Google Android TV certified and Netflix approved.
The 2016 model has in inbuilt Infra Red port and can still do Kodi HD audio passthrough.
The 2018 model has more buttons on its remote, drops the IR receiver and cannot do Kodi HD audio passthrough.
All other Chinese sourced Mi Boxes will be running touchscreen/tablet versions of Android and are much harder to use. Netflix will not even work with them.

4c is the Chinese variant it might not even have Google apps or Netflix so never go for that get 3s if you don't want to mostly.stream on 4k it's great for 1080p
