Blu-Ray quality MKV stutters and freezes when played through my original Mi Box

by AergiasChestnuts

I'm trying to play a MKV file (blu-ray quality rip) through my mi box (original) and it stutters, and switches files. I was originally running the file from an external hard drive-->usb hub-->Mi Box--> with VLC. I've since tried using kodi, as well as directly running from the flashdrive-->Mi box. Nothing seems to work. Is the simple answer Nvidia Shield, or is there possibly something else that I'm missing? Thanks for any thoughts.

Is the USB hub powered? How big is the MKV file?

Use the free Mediainfo App and examine the .mkv files on a PC or Mac.

If they are wmv or VC-1 encoded you are going to have issues on ALL Android devices.

Blurays are usually h.264 encoded and should not have any playback issue on Mi Boxes.

Smells like the source video files encoding is to blame here.

What's the bitrate / encoding settings on the MKV file?

Does it play without stutter if copied onto the MiBox?

try with the hdd directly in usb and if possible with usb thumb drive just to eliminate power issues

Strange since I played 40gb files with no issues. Reinstall? Have you enabled hardware acceleratiob?

I checked, they were 264. I tried to reinstalling them from my pc to another flash drive, and playing them through Kodi. Everything seems to work fine now. Thank you for everyone's help though, I really appreciate it.

Blast a fan at it. If it plays then, it's a heat/sink issue.
