I used a USB drive with mine and Kodi, had no problems with playback of 720p media. I don't think I tried any full size Blu-ray rips though.
Just picked up the Nvidia shield and realized that it has usb 3.0 ports whereas the Jetstream has 2.0 ports. Hopefully the spinning disk wasn't the bottle neck and the USB 2.0 ports were.
I was on the fence about the shield until I saw that it can be a Plex media server as well. That's pretty cool. I wonder if it has enough guts to watch local media while serving up for a stream to a local device?
Kodi is designed specifically for this purpose and does it better than any other app in my humble opinion.
add your media to a plex server.
Is rooting a possibility? I looked at the rom that only has Kodi and that looks really nice but I think thing is locked down.
I can't remember why I tried something other than Kodi. Are there any addons I need ?
Could you use kodi? Also buffering could have to do with your usb read/write speeds
