Help with Options for a Media Player

by dimigon

Looking for some recommendation here - I'm struggling to find something that will work for this scenario:

I built a teardrop trailer and have the portable battery powered Viewsonic M1 Projector - I bought it because of it's short throw, and long battery life. Unfortunately it doesn't play 90% of the media I try to play on it via USB. So I am looking for an external solution to connect to the projector, either through HDMI / USB.

Streaming Sticks (Roku, Firestick, Chromecast) - Was hoping I could send local content from my phone to the stick unfortunately I won't have a WiFi network for the device to connect to.

Android Media Players / PC Sticks - These are powered by DC as far as I could find, and I only have USB power in the trailer.

Basically looking for anything that can robustly play media content, that does not rely on a WiFi connection between devices, and can be powered by USB. Suggestions?

There are inexpensive adapters you can get for a Firestick that will let you add external USB storage. They usually run about $5 USD. Alternatively, you can use any router without internet as an offline network. If you can find one with USB power (maybe a used hotspot?), you should be able to connect devices. You may end up having a problem though with USB power. It may not be enough to fully power whatever HDMI device you get.

Intel sticks are powered by USB, they can be powered of a TV USB socket

A Xiaomi Mi Box will work, provided you power external USB hard drives either from a USB Hub or external power supply.

There are more details about various power options in this post:
