With Chromecast support for Amazon Prime video rolling out, has anyone been able to actually install the Prime app on your AndroidTV?

by dosangst

Most articles I've read stated that this roll out would cover Chromecast support as well as Android TV integration. But I am still unable to install any version of Amazon Prime on my ATVs.

Huh? I already have Prime Video on my Shield

No. Casting does not work to my Nexus player and I had to sideload the APK for prime on it and it loads but fails to play anything.

I was very disappointed when I went to install it on my Nexus Player last night after all the media coverage and it was nowhere to be found. It's possible Amazon won't release an x86 version, which would certainly be a shame.

This will slowly roll out device by device. Amazon still needs to whitelist each device as they test and certify them and also sign any necessary business deals with each manufacturer.

Huh? I already have prime video on my new Sony x950g which is Android TV. I don't remember if I downloaded it or if it was preinstalled, but it's there. I think it was preinstalled. Plays 4k Dolby vision and hdr like a champ and I didn't have to pay extra like Netflix.

If it doesn't show up in the play store, you can always side load it. Just make sure the source for the APK is reputable. Check YouTube for side loading apps on Android tv

Edit: read the rest of the replies and found out the Amazon made it available to only some devices. That's kind of stupid imo.

it says here last update was on 4th of July so we probably need to wait for the next update: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.amazonvideo.livingroom

Been waiting patiently for Prime Video Chromecast support and it doesn't work on my Nexus player. Sad times.

They are talking about casting to Android TV devices via Chromecast built-in from Prime Video app on your phone.

It is working well for me on my shield but I am not sure how similar that ends up being with the rest of the ATV boxes. Works as well as it does on any other OS device I have, as far as I can tell.

I have been using an unofficial Amazon Prime app on both of my MiBoxes with no issues for several months. Do a search for it on YouTube.

I sideloaded it onto my TCL Android TV all seemed to be working but will only play the first 10 seconds of any video and stops

Red__Pixel

No, but I can cast from the mobile app to my Mibox3 (built-in Chromecast) now :)

Slitbreaker

It showed up on my 2015 Sony TV after an update a while back. I had to install it via Aptoide on my TCL TV. But it was unstable and would cause the TV to reboot. I installed the phone version and it's more stable but requires a mouse/gestures remote.

It came from factory with Prime video on my Phillips android tv

Chromecast work just fine, but Play Store on my Mi Box 3 does not show Prime Video app. I'm using apk from Aptoide.

Been on shield for something like 2 years.
