If you're looking for news, Haystack news is a great news app on Android TV. There is also an AccuWeather app for weather updates.
Yeah, shouldn't you be able to just about everything with the ATV as you could do with your phone? Of course most of those things you can do with a browser. I have not been too happy with any browser I've run on my shield. I'm looking at apps on my phone and thinking, wouldn't it be cool to order pizzas from Dominos? Could I search restaurant ideas with Yelp? How about looking at hiking trails with the alltrails app? Pull up google calendar? So many things I DON'T use my Shield ATV for now.
I wish there was Google Earth you could control with the gamepad, that would be so cool.
