Should I buy the Mi Box ?

by Celestial-Walker

Hi guys, I was wondering if the Mi Box S is still a viable option regarding the sleep bug where everything gets laggy and you need to manually reset the device in order for it to stop lagging.

Never experienced that issue. I'm really enjoying mine.

Just replaced my Nexus player with mibox. Menu is snappier, Netflix/Kodi/YouTube works fine

Ive now purchased and setup three of these. One for myself and the rest for friends & family. They are all raving about it. Awesome IPTV with TiviMate and a subscription, play local stuff from my server with VLC. The box is of sound quality and has a sound price.

I cant speak to the mibox s, but I have had the standard mibox for a little over a year and haven't had any major issues. The only issue I've had since owning it is was when they updated to Android 8. There was a pretty frustrating power issue affecting a good amount of people. It would only occur when you put the mibox to sleep with the power button on the remote. If it was off for longer than say 12 hours before you tried turning it back on, it wouldn't turn on regardless of what button you hit. The only way to fix it was to unplug the power cord completely and plug it back in again

They have since fixed this via OTAs, but it took a good 6 months for them to resolve the problem. According to their support forums, it wasn't deemed as a "critical issue". Aside from that, the mibox is awesome. Handles pretty much anything I can throw at it at 1080p. Haven't messed with any 4k content though since my 4k Sony TV runs Android TV.

Get it, I got the mibox3 and I dont have any problems with it since I operated it regularly to avoid the wakeup issue.

The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of a lan adapter

Outside of it being a bitch to find a proper Amazon Prime APK, mines been great. No wifi issues on the opposite side of the house, couple app restarts but nothing big.

Might seem counter intuitive but I'd suggest getting the original Mi Box instead of the S. They use the exact same hardware but for whatever reason the original Mi Box can pass HD audio via bitstream and the Mi Box S cannot.

Xiaomi has been very good about updating the original Mi Box and fixing issues so its not to say that the HD audio issue won't be fixed on the S but its not an issue on the original box and the S isn't a hardware upgrade.

Well guys, I went for the S version and I honestly couldn't be happier! As soon as I set it up I got an update which indicated that the wake-up bug was fixed. The device is very responsive and the Google assistant is actually very very helpful.

Thank you all for your input!
