Hard Drive not working on Philips Android TV

by punjabi4life_aj

I recently got a Philips Android TV, aside from my Shield, but I can’t get it to read my hard drive. My hard drive shows up but the OS says it is Corrupt. My drive is absolutely fine when used on my computer. Works on my Shield TV just fine also.

It is a WD 4TB NTFS, I have 50PFL5604/F7 as my TV.

Update (07/26/2019): Tried using a 2TB drive and I got an unsupported notification from the TV. Drive was in NTFS, from computer I reformatted it to exFAT and still unsupported. Allowed TV to reformat and it picked FAT32.

Looking at this post , they talk about how NTFS support broke in Oreo. They are also referring to a different Philips Android TV model but doesn't make sense that Philips would support different Formatting on different TVs. So I believe my model should support NTFS, is a possibility it is broke in Oreo?

Not all Android TV devices support the NTFS file system.

My friend just bought a Philip's android tv on black friday and is having the same issue, any progress?

A 4TB drive! There's a good chance that the TV can't output enough power to properly run that drive through one USB port.

If you can get your hands on a cable like this, the second male USB will draw extra power to run the drive.

Check for updates, and use USB 3 port, it has enough power. I had the same problem. If it still doesn't work and asks to reformat, it's the only way, but do it in your pc, quick format, ntfs, allocation size default.

I had the same situation with philips 2018 android tv

TV tries to format it, for TV recordings, but u need ntfs for files and other stuff, I wouldn't recommend it it, because then hdd is paired with that TV only. What's your model number?

And what color is it? Is it blue inside?
