The new Hulu app with Live TV has started rolling out to SHIELD users. Enjoy live sports, news and events on 60+ top channels. The rollout is expected to complete in the coming weeks.

Hulu has said for months (years?) now that they considered their Android TV app to be deprecated.

Useful Android 9.0 features:

• Autofill framework: Some apps, such as password managers, can fill out the views in other apps with data previously provided by the user. These apps that fill out other apps are called autofill services . The autofill framework manages the communication between an app and an autofill service.
• Sound delay reporting : Android 9 offers support for headsets with sound delay reporting, so video on your device and audio on your headphones can always stay in sync.
• Volume memory per Bluetooth device : Android 9 will now remember the last volume you set for each of your Bluetooth devices. No more blasting music too loudly when you reconnect to your car or headphones.
• HDR : Android 9 adds built-in support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) VP9 Profile 2, so you can watch HDR-enabled movies on YouTube and Google Play Movies. HDR improves the brightness and color range of video to improve the picture quality and experience.
• HD Audio : Improved performance and support for HD audio delivering clearer, sharper, and richer quality sound.
• ART ahead-of-time conversion of DEX files : On devices running Android 9 or higher, the Android runtime (ART) ahead-of-time compiler further optimizes compressed Dalvik Executable format (DEX) files by converting the DEX files in an app package into a more compact representation. This change allows your app to start faster and consume less disk space and RAM.
• AudioPresentation : An audio stream may contain multiple presentations that differ by language, accessibility, end point mastering and dialogue enhancement. An audio presentation may also have a set of description labels in different languages to help the user to make an informed selection (MASTERED_FOR_3D, MASTERED_FOR_HEADPHONE, MASTERED_FOR_STEREO, MASTERED_FOR_SURROUND).
  • hasAudioDescription () - Indicates whether an audio description for the visually impaired is available.
  • hasDialogueEnhancement () - Indicates whether dialogue enhancement is available.
  • hasSpokenSubtitles () - Indicates whether spoken subtitles for the visually impaired are available.

I wish I bought this device like 4 years back. Worth every penny.

Still going strong on my first generation Shield, but i'm definitely buying the new one when it comes out as an appreciation for their support.

No Dolby Vision :(

FYI, there is a new "USB Port Power" setting now ("Settings" -> "Device Preferences" -> "System"). You can set the power mode of individual USB port to "Always On" or "Off During Sleep". Useful feature for people who don't want external drives and peripherals powered on during sleep.

With "Match content color space" enabled; during playback of HDR video, my LG B6 "info" just shows "HDR" and not "BT.2020". If I disable color space matching and explicitly set the Shield to output Rec. 2020, then the TV shows both "HDR" and "BT.2020" while playing HDR video. I don't think this was the case pre-update, when having colorimetry enabled in Developer Settings. Does this mean that when color space matching is enabled, it somehow plays HDR video in Rec. 709?

No update for me yet in Canada. I've tried using a VPN, didn't work. Any way to force it?

Upgraded my 2017 shield tonight. Not noticing any major changes, but it’s zippy and stable so I’m happy.

Resolves channel detection issues with Hauppauge USB tuners

Does one know if the live channels app supports the Hauppauge DVB-C tuner now?

Does it fix the joystick issue where it wants to scroll up no matter what?

I can't get PuppetMaster to work, it claims that there are geoblocks. Also
Dplay Danmark not starting at all...

Basically all my live TV... How do I downgrade?

Have they restored the screenshot functionality, and fixed the launcher?

I'm not sure how to improve this but I use an external SSD plugged in so I used the new feature where I can put the USB to sleep but this seems to cause issues.

Is anyone else able to get Mouse Toggle to work. The up/down finger swipe to activate it now just control the volume on mine.
