On my Moto I can do this by going to settings > connected devices > cast and picking the shield as the cast target. No app required.
Yep with the Google Home app. It's kinda buried in there from memory, takes me forever to find it. Screen mirroring I believe it's called.
Beware if you've got company - all your notifications will pop up as well.
Doesn't it have chrome cast?
Does the samsung galaxy 7 not not have Smart View support? It's a quick setting tile in both Oreo and Pie on the s8 and s10e that I have handy. At least on my devices it mirrors my screen to my Shield just fine.
It should be called Smart View on Samsung phones
Some Android phones can. I don't know if the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is able to do it though. I think Samsung prefers to use Miracast for their mirroring protocol. Someone with your phone could chime in or try asking the Galaxy S7 Edge subreddit: /r/galaxys7edge
Search your phone settings for "wireless display"
Download the google home app and go over to the shield once you have it set up. You can then cast your phone's screen to it.
