Problems in 4K TV with Xiaomi Mi Box S and Ematic AGT419 (Mi Box S Copy, same hardware)

by diegorgx

I have the Following problems:

Mi Box S:

- Kodi: Works Smooth, no Stuttering(1080p and 4K HDR)
- Netflix: Stuttering
- Emby: Stuttering
- Youtube: Smooth no Stuttering.

Ematic AGT419:

- Kodi: Works Smooth 4K HDR, 1080p Stuttering "sometimes?"
- Netflix: Stuttering
- Insert: I haven't tried
- Youtube: Smooth no Stuttering.

I don't know, what can i do? xD . I tried all setting in both Android TVs, nothing works.

I have mibox3 international version with latest software update and YouTube app is “trash” sometimes when you fast forward a video the box freezes and shows you the Android logo. I use SmartYoutube app with no problems

I have bad stuttering trying to watch Fox Sports on my Mi Box S. SUPER frustrating trying to watch sports that stutters.

Hmm, I've never had issue with my mi box S stuttering.

This is all I use though

Netflix, Prime, Hulu, YT, and YT TV.

switch the refresh rate manually?

scratch that, I thought you meant judder.

have you tried connecting the boxes using ethernet cable instead of wifi?

Sounds more like a network issue

I tried diferent settingas and i got a conclusion, is a refresh rate problem

60hz a lot stutter, no metter the resolution. 50hz is more stable, but stutter come in rythm interval. 30hz make the interface slow, less stutter, but exist.

Kodi works smooth with every resolution and refresh rates, maybe kodi disable somehting like Android UI, i dont know.

I think is the android poor optimization, a refresh rate oscilation.

I noticed that too. I switched to a Mecool KM3. Noticed no issues streaming however chromecast on it is iffy if not using apps.

If you have a look in Android Settings > About on both devices, see if they are both running a v4.9 Kernel.

I might know a few thing about that version of the Kernel. The Chipset vendor who supplies it, Amlogic have hacked in a bunch of bullshit code that upsets Netflix 3:2 pull down timing for video playback (I've seen the code).

The original 2016 Mi Box had no Netflix stuttering with it's old v3.1x Kernel when it ran Android Marshmallow and Nougat. 24p Netflix Playback was pretty smooth, especially if you had a TV that could do this:

The current Mi Box Netflix stuttering for me Stands out like "Dogs Balls" by comparison to how smooth is was previously.

In reality you have three option, if stuttering video playback annoys you:

  1. Use Kodi and it's auto Refresh Switching (Frame rate matching) and the Kodi Leia Netflix Addon:

  1. Buy an Apple TV 4K that does superb auto Frame Rate Matching with the Netflix App for silky smooth video playback. It really is the best in the business for that.

  2. Play around with Motion Interpolation and Smoothing in a TV settings. I doubt this will work.
