Please recommend a box for me... details

by palebluedotcitizen

I need it to play Netflix, Youtube and videos in VLC flawlessly and in 1080 HD (I hear some only play Netflix in 420P due to DRM restrictions). I have an extensive library of movies on external USB drives, in many different formats (My Xbox One with VLC plays them all). I want it to boot fast, be fast and responsive, easy to use, reliable and just work well on wifi with no buffering or stuttering. The ability to use an air mouse would be nice. This is for my girlfriend who is used to Apple TV so I need it to "just work." I am willing to do any necessary setup and installing apps. Budget - around 70 Canadian. Many thanks!!!!!

Firestick or Mi box. Everyone recommends that stupid shield cause its top notch and not everyone has money or needs a powerhouse to watch movies

Canadian too, just got the firestick 4k with Amazon discount few days ago. Best box I've owned yet. ( First box was a gbox mx2 running libreelec , then raspberry Pi 2 with libreelec , 3rd was a tanix tx3 max with atvx firmware ). Firestick is fast, Netflix 4k, ... on wifi 2.4, no bug or glitch yet.

Shield TV. GF will be frustrated with anything else.

NVIDIA Shield TV is the best option. Mi Box is the affordable option.

Android TV Device Comparison Table:

Not all devices can do HD or better Netflix.

Fire TV Stick 4K is the fastest, smoothest bang for the buck available, followed by the Mecool KM3 / KM9.

NTFS formatted HDD's will have issues with the FireTV Stick 4K:

CoreELEC Kodi running from a microSDHC will handle anything you throw at it when using the Mecool's (which can also then dual boot):

CoreELEC Kodi Leia can use the Kodi Leia Netflix Addon.
