Got the update prompt 10 minutes ago, here is the changelog from the official forum:
Bugs Fixed:

System:

  • Redesigns Volume UI for android P
  • Resolves occasional video playback issues
  • Fixes bug incorrect volume control reporting accessibility feature enabled
  • Resolves navigation sound issue
  • Resolves “Drive address format is not valid” message seen when connecting to NAS
  • Resolves USB DAC issue where audio volume would be set low after reboot/DAC hotplug
  • Resolves issue where side loaded apps appear as system apps

Display:
-“Match content color space” feature now displays correct format

  • Fixes bug where “Match content color space” would not work when display set to RGB
  • Resolves issue playing VC1 content

Storage:

  • Resolves Sdcard/InternalStorage accessibility issue when adopting storage
  • Resolves issue where storage is reported as full after adopting storage

Network:

  • Improves 4K streaming issues when network connected over Wifi
  • Resolves rare Wi-Fi disconnect issue
  • Fixes bug where manual DNS entries would not be saved

Accessories:

  • Improves IR control reliability on some Denon and Sony receivers
  • Improves SHIELD Remote App connection and control issues
  • Resolves SHIELD Controller 2017 OTA stability issues
  • Fixes issue where forgotten SHIELD accessories still appear in SHIELD
  • Resolves automatic centering issues on some controllers
  • Adds support for STRQUA G20 keymapping

  • YouTube 5.1 PCM audio not available

Boy I hope this "rare Wi-Fi disconnect issue" that's been fixed is the one that is anything but rare. I'm really tired of all the WiFi disconnects.

We just released software upgrade 8.0.1 which is a big step towards resolving the 4K streaming issue on select apps. We expect most apps will resume 4K soon via upcoming server-side updates. We’ll keep updating this thread as apps return to 4K.

Question, what is a nicer launcher than stock?

After update, pressing home button (Circle) I can choose what launcher use. If I set Always after choosing one, how can i reset it again? Installing another launcher to trigger again the choice like on smartphones?

So do 3rd party remotes (Rii MX3/6/9 & Azulle Lynk) center d-pad button work with Xumo & Hulu again?

EDIT: Nope, still doesn't!?

EDIT2: Apparently, Hulu has already rectified the situation & Xumo just emailed me back, said they'll fix it in the next update.

"resolves rare wifi disconnect issue." I feel like I single handily got this on their radar. I got my shield on 8.0 drop and every wifi disconnect (had 20+) I sent feedback 😂. Hopefully this fixes it.

Loving this; fast, smooth & took no time at all to update, compared to past updates.

All 5 of my 8BitDo controllers even stayed synced & my external game drive connected via 7 port powered hub seems to respond instantly now, no lag or stutter in startup.

The update recommended unlinking and relinking to google home. I unlinked and now my shield will not relink to Google Home! I searched around but could not find a solution.

I use roku streaming stick plus to watch vudu movies. I also have the nvidia shield tv. Can anyone confirm that nvidia shield plays vudu 4k movies better than the roku stick. Or will it look the same thanks.

Just updated mine. Hoping this is detected faster by my TV now, ever since Shield Experience 8.0 I often have to toggle the power to get it to work.

Does this replace the hotfix updates that were being pushed to those who signed up using Nvidia’s form? I never did any of that, but got 8.0.1 yesterday.

This also seems to have fixed a bug with the ir control for my okyno receiver as well, seems to work properly again now instead of intermittent
