Mi Box S - Wifi Disconnecting

by Calvinf746

Hi guys I'm wondering if anyone has a fix for this, I'm running 8.1 Oreo and my Wifi keeps dropping to the point where i can't access YouTube or stream movies or do anything really, I've done a factory reset. Removed the power cable and reconnected it, reset my router. Ive heard that maybe i would need to do a reset from the recovery menu but i don't know how to access it so yeah, if anyone has a solution to this, please let me know cause it is infuriating.

The issue is that the Mi Box for some reason does not like the upper Wi-Fi channels, this applies to both 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. If using 2.4 Ghz, set the router to not use anything higher than channel 9, or higher than channel 48 if using 5 Ghz. Almost all routers will also automatically jump between different channels depending on the congestion. So even better if you manually set it to a specific channel, so that it remains locked to the set channel at all times.

My wifi intermittently says no internet connection. I'm not sure if it's the same problem you have but I'm interested what everyone else is experiencing.

Get that all the time with this box

If you can get an Ethernet cable to it, that’d be the best solution you could get. You’d need to buy a USB Ethernet adapter, UGreen has a 3.0 USB Gigabit adapter that’s inexpensive, will also provide 3 USB ports for additional stuff and your internet problems will end.

Same here...I have the MiBox on a Roku TV. So luckily when the MiBox gets a headache I just switch it off and switch to the Roku ecosystem and when the time comes I'll unplug the MiBox when it's needed again.

Are you getting good Wifi signal from your handphones at the location where your Mibox S is located? Is there any Wifi signal interference you experienced?

Check here for further information. Method to check the interference can also be use in other TV devices or Andriod phone

I used to have this problem when my WiFi was barely good downstairs. It was working on our PC and phones but Mi Box didn't like it. I connected an access point next to Mi Box, it hasn't disconnected since then using 5 ghz network.

I read about and installed an app called WakeLock Revamp on my MiBox 3 yesterday in an effort to fix the lagging issues that came with Oreo on the box.

While early days, the app seems to finally resolved the lagging issues AND as a bonus helped with the Wifi. Before installation I'd get buffering on 1920x1080 Youtube videos. After the install I get none of that.

Not sure how it changed things but it's the only explanation since that is the only thing that has changed on the unit. I was actually preparing to do a factory reset today before I came across this app.

If you want to try, you can check it out here: https://github.com/d4rken/wakelock-revamp/releases

Just download the apk. Open the app and click Processor and Wifi Normal so a yellow bar shows on the left hand side. That's all. Since it's a sideloaded app if you need to access in future I use Sideload Launcher to get at it. Alternatively, you can simply access it via Settings > Apps menu.

You can read more about it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wldonate

If you check the reviews, this app has also helped save Samsung Note 4s from being unusable. Obviously, whatever it does with the wakelocks, it fixes something in these units including the MiBox.
