Nvidia Shield TV battery tray stuck!!!

by improvedmandem

I'm at the end of my tether with this thing.

The battery notification popped up so I got a pin and attempted to pop open the tray...nope. It's stuck.

What do I do now?

I rely on my Shield for EVERYTHING and now I can't even use it because of a flawed design.

I am really annoyed at this and just need some help. I have caused a lot of cosmetic damage trying to get the damn thing to slide out but it's stuck.

Such a great device and great remote but who's brilliant idea was to have a pop open tray for the battery? It's a recipe for disaster!

You have to push it really hard until one of two things happen:

  1. It opens
  2. It breaks

Use a pen not a pin.

Are you sure it's actually got a tray? Does it have a USB port?

Just asking because I know there are a couple remote designs out there now.

Mine I just need to lightly push a pen as /u/FDisk80 mentioned and it should just pop out.

One recommendation I can give is if it does have a tray a small knife or razor blade should be able to help you pop it open when you push the middle eject button.

Had the same thing happen with a brand new Shield from Amazon. Remote arrived with a flat battery and the tray was completely stuck to the extent that trying to open it destroyed it. I was lucky enough to get a replacement from Amazon which was fine, so I think it's a design flaw that affects some remotes but not all.

I think it's worth mentioning the Amazon remote v2 works really great with the shield. I lost my original remote and was sick of using the controller for everything.

It uses regular double a.

That happened to my new shield first battery change, and I sent it back, they sent me a new one, problem solved!
