Xiaomi Mibox S won't turn on using the remote control

by Kiicki

I have this issue when sometimes the Mibox S won't turn on at all using the remote control. I have tried spamming the buttons, and changing the batteries, but that doesn't work.

I need to unplug/plug the power for it to turn on. Is there any fix for this? Is it a common problem? Should I do a factory reset? The box is running the latest OS available, and everything is up to date.

Might have to resync your remote. I've had to do this a couple times since buying mine 3 years ago. Go into the settings and unpair your bluetooth remote from the list.

Basically watch this video on how to do it:

It’s been an intermittent issue for me. I’ve found that if I just press and hold the button a couple seconds works, if not the first/second/third time.

There was an update about a month or so ago that made it a lot better than it is now. It used to randomly not turn on no matter what I did until I’d power cycle. That doesn’t seem to happen anymore.

I am using Google casting from YouTube as a backup way to wake up my Mi Box in case remote can't. But you need to sideload the Wakelock app ( https://github.com/d4rken/wakelock-revamp/releases ) and enable processor and Wifi normal locks to keep casting function alive when device is in sleep mode. So far this works great after about two weeks.

Happens all the time. I resolve it by restarting the box. It's a pain in the ass.

Why let the Mi Box sleep in the first place ?

Go into Screensaver settings and switch Sleep to "Never"

Also turn HDMI CEC off.

The device uses so little power anyway it can be left on 24/7

okay this problem is old, but i found a possible solution especially for german users with Telekom Entertain Receiver. After i unplugged the power cable for the Entertain Receiver, the remote for the MiBox S works like a charm.

Maybe the frequency for the power button is the same?

I had the same problem but to me works: Factory reset ( look on google how to run) and after factory reset turn on hdmi cec switch I hope to help you :)

Any other solutions? I have yet to find a way to fix this...

Same issue here, started after the latest firmware update, or maybe the one before that. Not sure.

Don't think this is remote sync problem. Because after reboot it works fine.

It happens more often when I sit down with a plate of food, ready to eat...
