Leelbox MXQ Pro 4k. Too old to update?

by bbloedow2

Got this box for my parents to watch Netflix. Netflix needed an update that wouldnt work on the old version of android. So I gotta update android and dont know how.

I tried looking it up and I'm lost. Also looks like the newest firmware I can find is from 2017 which I think it already has.

Is this android box too old to update?

That's kind of outside the scope of this sub. We specifically discuss boxes that run Android TV (Google's official TV-focused Android distribution) here, and your device doesn't seem to be one of those. You might try /r/androidtvboxes or /r/androidbox for people that might be more knowledgeable.

Generally, I (and most people here) recommend against non-Android TV boxes, specifically because of the type of problem you're having here. They're generally hacked-together, buggy, have issues with common apps, and come with little to no post-sale support. You're extremely unlikely to get a new official firmware for this thing.

Sorry I cannot answer your question (finding firmware for chinese tv boxes can be challenging), but a work-around might be:

On your android tv box, open the web browser app and goto www.aptoide.com and download the APK. Then on Android box, use any File Manager style app, locate your Downloads directory, and run the APK to install it. Once you have the Aptoide app installed, run it. Use the search feature to find the Netflix app. There are 2 versions of Netflix app, get the one with the black background.

Run the Aida64 App and find out what chipset is under the hood.

Then head over to the freaktab.com website and begin searching.

Good luck !

Also look into a cheap Amazon FireTV Stick 4K for Netflix streaming. Excellent Bang for the Buck.
