Which mibox is more reliable?

by Max_Roc

Going to set my parents up with a streaming box.

They will strictly be using Netflix, Hulu and Prime (upon arrival). They do stream 4k fwiw and will use BT headphones.

Which of the two would be better suited for non techy folks, with the most reliable remote/headset BT connection and overall least amount of fuss?

Anyone know when to expect prime? Will sideload apk but prefer the official version.

Thank you

im not having issues on my S with the wifi. but both boxes have the same problem after hibernation if your tv has no hdmi cec. since there is no power off, just sleep, you will have massive lag if you dont turn on hdmi cec and sync tv with mibox. if you dont have cec you will have to reboot the box every time. also note that there is only 5gb free space in both versions. i dont know if its a deal with all miboxes but on the S you will need a powered usb hub if you want to extend your disk space with some kind of memory, or the power outage on hibernation will corrupt your sd card.

i would still go with the S version, as those 2 problems above are the only ones i have ever faced.

pretty happy now :-)

by the way. if u gonna sideload the amazon prime video app, go with version 4.11.4 as the others are way more buggy on the mibox.

Your folks would probably enjoy the remote that ships with the Mi Box S.

If you get the Mi Box and discover any lag/wifi issues check out an app called Wakelock Revamp - it stops the unit from sleeping.

I wrote a post with more details here:

If only Mi box owners simply stopped letting their devices sleep, a whole lot of problems could be averted.

They need at minimum to go into ATV Settings Screensaver and set Sleep to NEVER.

If that does not work also turn HDMI CEC OFF just to make sure a TV does not signal Sleep to the Mi Box either when the TV is turn off.

Theses mobile based chipsets in cheap media player consume minimal power even when left on 24/7, even connected Hard Drives very, very rarely fail when running 24/7.
