NAS type solution to play movies? Xiaomi mi tv box S

by AdditionalExcitement

So i have a xiaomi mi tv box S, right now i plug in a usb flash drive and play movies from it. Works well, but i would like to move to a 2tb usb hard drive. Which i could plug in, but i dont know how to easily share it on the network

Anyone use a NAS? I would love to connect a NAS via lan, and then connect that via usb to the xiaomi tv box , maybe that would be easy?

smb works well

Use a network browser app, and connected to the NAS on whatever protocol you want

I'm guessing many of these answers are confusing you because this gets very geeky very quickly and most people seem to enjoy bragging about their set up more than actually helping. I would suggest taking a look at options like Plex or Emby. My Nvidia Shield has Plex built into the operating system so you might have that available on your MiBox as well, not sure, if you don't however Plex and Emby are both great easy free solutions. Plex is probably the most user-friendly easiest to get up and going experience. Emby offers higher quality artwork and metadata.

This might also depend on how many users at once throughout the house you think will be on. Plex does very very well with things like transcoding. Plex is probably your easiest option but I would definitely look into Emby and Kodi as well. All three are free so try them all and find out which one fits you best.

These are without a doubt the most well-known, most popular, and probably the best free solutions available. Good luck.
