For anyone turned off by the new Nvidia remote design, this is for you...

Just setup the 8gb tube and I'll briefly mention that the resolution is noticeably better, but this post is regarding the remote. I was initially super disappointed when the new gen leaked online recently. I didn't care for the pyramid shape remote at all or the fact that it cannot lay flat.

However, I'm totally digging it now. Not only does it feel super responsive, it feels very ergonomic in the hand. They didn't cut any corners on build quality imo. The buttons feel premium, voice is working as expected, and i was pleasantly surprised to see the settings/hamburger button is customizable with these 13 hotkey options:

Mute, open a quick setting, send menu command to app, take screenshots, open recent apps view, close all backround apps, toggle AI upscaling, AI upscaling, match frame rate. This list and features will be expanded in future release, with long/short press, double tap mapping according to one Nvidia source.

Also love the backlighting and brightness and duration control.

I hope to see some 3rd party tpu cases this time around, for drop protection.

That's all. Thought it might help some of you on the fence like i was.

Happy streaming. ✌️

Can't wait for the remote to be available on its own.

Honestly, it doesn't matter how many rebinding options you have, when the remote doesn't have it's own Mute button, which in my opinion is essential. So here we are, rebindable button, but you have to use it for mute.

Obviously you could rebind the Netflix button to mute and use this button freely, but...

The fact it doesn't lay flat really bothers me looking at it, but it's good to know they vastly improved the current unresponsive one with gimmicky volume control.

I can’t get past the FF and RW not being in the same row. Petty, I know, but I’ll stick with my Amazon voice remotes.

Great review! I think I'm going to move my current Shield TV to my bedroom to replace my Nexus Player and get a new Shield TV pro. Then I'm going to move the new remote to the old Shield TV and continue using my Harmony in my living room. Always hated the old remote and glad the new one works well.

Henry2k

but do you know how to pop it open to change batteries?

Does this remote have headphone jack?

Oh, can you check if the AI Upscaling works with VLC? VLC is the player I use to watch content from other sources that are not streaming (i.e. Netflix, Youtube, Prime, etc..) and wanted to see if I'd benefit from the AI Upscaling in VLC.

I have the 2015 Shield and am looking for a reason to upgrade.

The remote is the only thing holding me off from buying the new Shield Pro.. Mostly cuz it won't fit "any" remote control holders that makes the remote super accessible in my recliner.. Hopefully someone will put the exact measurements online very soon so 3D printers globally can start selling holders for it..
