Both Philips and Sony Android TV (and maybe others) can use DVR features when using the manufacturers Live Channels 'skin'. Just plug in a usb hdd and start recording, but when starting Live Channels directly ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv ) it seems as if these functions have been taken away somehow.
Anybody know if DVR can be enabled in native Live Channels as well?

One would think TV manufacturers were given the AOSP code ( https://android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/apps/TV/ ), but that includes DVR so probably not.
No Sony or Philips developer here that can explain the situation?
