Nvidia Shield vs FireTV, which has a snappier/smoother interface?

by scienzest

I was watching some reviews online of Nvidia Shield/Pro and I can't tell if it's my screen or the video, but the interface looks a little less snappy than my current 1st gen FireTV. Mainly would like to go with Shield for the ease of deploying Kodi but I've been pretty happy with the FireTV interface and not sure I want to sacrifice that experienece. Thanks

What are you expecting to hear on a Android TV forum hehe

Shield is by far faster than my fire stick 4k and 3rd gen fire TV (dongle version). It actually gets frustrating to use those when I'm so used the the shield in the living room.

Plus you can quickly get to your apps without having to scroll past an ad literally every time you go to the home screen. You can also still use your shield if your wifi drops out for some reason.

One is a media streamer, the other is a storefront.

Not a chance that a first gen is as snappy. I have a Shield and the 4k Firestick. The Shield is snappier must be the video. I had the first Gen as well not anymore

One of the biggest factors in "snappiness" is your internet connection: Wifi vs ethernet. The ping time on ethernet is almost non existent whereas there's quite a bit of lag on wifi. This is unrelated to your total internet bandwidth/speed. Check to see if the video you watched was wifi or ethernet; it sounds like wifi.

I have both a 4K FireTV stick and an Nvidia Shield. The Shield is snappier but for basic streaming I'm not sure if it is $150+ snappier if you know what I mean.

The 4K Stick has actually been my "daily driver" all summer as the Shield is downstairs in the basement. Now that winter is coming I'll be using the Shield more. It is faster but again for streaming it's not that noticeable.

I can't get over the amount of bloatware, and recommended content that the Fire OS throws at you. Gets the job done for a lightly used tv, but wouldn't recommend in a living room.

Shield all day, less restrictions in the OS & more features/power overall.

Which is why the 4K stick I bought to rip APKs from spends most of its time in my office closet, unless updating or extracting, of course.

Would depend on what will you use it for, for the cost of one you can get six of others.

You can keep upgrading the cheap one every 2 years and still come ahead then buying one of the expensive ones.

In 12 years one of them will be a paper weight.
