Amazon Prime app showing everything but not loading Prime video original content

by watchyourmouthplease

Hi all,

I just got my first smart TV, a TCL with android TV and chromecast built in (i know they have Roku in the US but in Australia they all come with Android TV for some reason).

I was surprised not being able to find the Amazon Prime Video app on the play store, but eventually I read how to download it with Aptoide and installed the latest version.

It's working well, just the Amazon Prime original content is not playing (it's loading for a bit and then give me an error message), each and everyone of the shows. Which is frustrating cause i was excited about the new season of The Man in the High Castle. But anyway, anyone knows if it's a common problem and it's possible to resolve it? It's releated to the 4k format of the shows or it's the TV?

Thanks!

I have the same TCL 55" AU TV and I noticed a similar issue - Prime was removed from the Home Launcher and I needed to re-add the app from the app picker - it works (although the first few atttempt is stalled on the splash screen) - still haven't worked out how to get the Prime strip/bar/channel back. PS. I wish we had the Roku version too!

The Amazon Prime app is not available in the Android Play store.

Is up to the tv manufacturer to include it or not. Apparently TLC had decided not to include it.

Sideloading it brings the authentication problems that you are experiencing. These protections are there to avoid piracy and I suspect are more strongly enforced for original and 4K content.

Netflix is even worse: no way to use the app if the device is not approved

It looks like Amazon App having a problem today. Even Sony Bravia TV's (Which always had Prime Video reinstalled) having problem playing Prime contents.

I have a TCL here in India with the same issue. I can confirm that none of the AndoirdTV apk for the prime will work.

Best you can do is cast but even that seems to work half the time only as half the time it freezes out at me,

or you could install a specific version of the mobile app. Mobile app works OK'ish, you can navigate up/down/left/right and the bottom keys of the TCL remote for play/pause also works IIRC but it comes with some limitations like not being able to use subtitles, navigation being tricky when it comes to selecting specific episodes from the season list, etc. Let me know if you want to know the specific version of the mobile app that works but till then I'd suggest you try casting from the mobile app instead.
