To make it easy I've always used the Nexus Root Toolkit by Wugfresh (if I remember correctly--it's been a long time)
Better get on r/nexusplayer and do some reading. The updates have been bricking everyone's devices. Has been ongoing for over a year now with no resolution.

You'll have to flash it with adb
