Using remotes from other Android TVs

by adtr223

I have a Samsung NU7200 paired with a Nvidia Shield TV. Can I pair a remote from another Android TV model (Say the one from the Sony 950G) and it work with my shield?

I figure you could use the bluetooth for the Shield and if possible use the IR for the TV?

I know this info is irrelevant but I want to let you know that my mi tv remote automatically works with my fire tv 4k but not vice versa.

I used a FireTV remote with my 2015 shield ages ago.

Worked fine, but then I reset the shield and couldn't get the FireTV remote to pair with the shield afterwards. The original shield remote worked, but I'm not a fan of that remote and liked the FireTV one.

After a lot of mucking about, I tried pairing the shield game controller with the Shield, just to see if that would work. It worked fine. Once it was paired, the FireTV remote would pair too.

I reported this on the shield forums, but I don't think it's likely to have been fixed - it's a pretty edge case.

FWIW I also have a Harmony 650 IR remote that drives the shield just fine - but it's the older shield which shipped with the inbuilt IR receiver.
