hi guys broke college student here looking for a cheap media set up, I was planning on getting the Mi box and was wondering,
will an android box be comapatible with a plain LED monitor, the ones used for PC's ? with HDMI output ofc . Or do i need to get an actual TV for it to work?

Hdmi input you are fine. Need to deal with your speakers though. I used a bluetooth pair and a monitor
Any monitor with hdmi port (16:9 or wide-screen screen is much better than the letterbox) Then an external speaker since most of the monitors don't have built-in speakers.
The mi box has a stereo out you could send to a cheap pair of powered speakers.
A HDMI to DVI cable could work if you don't have an HDMI input.
I run mine like that, with a hdmi to vga adapter to a computer panel with speakers plugged into the audio out of the adapter
If it has HDMI I'm 99% sure it works*
*your monitor may not have built in speakers and you may need ones
