Mi Box S - won't connect with USB to Ethernet adaptor - only working over wifi - any ideas?

by jam-hay

Hi, this one's driving me crazy

MI Box S (MIBOX4)

Android Oreo Version: 8.1.0

Android security patch 5th May 2019

Kernel version: 4.9.61

Download is 6mbps however my hardwired PC next to it is getting 55mbps so obviously the way to go.

I've seen the UGreen ethernet adaptors come recommended so now have tried 2 of them, but the MI Box doesn't seem to recognise them.

The models I've tried are:

UGREEN FBA_20256 https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Network-Ethernet-Supports-Nintendo/dp/B00MYTSN18

UGREEN 20265 https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Ethernet-1000Mbps-Nintendo-Chromebook/dp/B00LLUEJFU/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=UGREEN+20265&qid=1575153690&s=electronics&sr=1-1

Leds on both adaptors are both flickering away like there is some data being passed through them, however under wifi settings in the MiBox S settings menu, under "Ethernet" the status always remains as "Not Connected".

I've tried disabling wifi and rebooting yet still no luck.

Can any one help/ offer advice

Thanks

Try a different ethernet cable?

Weird. Most usb ethernet adapters work fine, the ugreen etc are recommended because they stay awake when the mi box goes to sleep and avoids the hassle of others that need to be replugged to wake them.

Any other devices between the ethernet adapter and the box? I have a linksys ethernet adapter and it works perfectly, but I've read many times the ugreen do too.

Turn off developer settings.

Reset the mibox?

Can also suggest you try a USB lan with the Realtek (RTL?) chipset and see if that works.
