I have one of these for my shield and its the best remote ive ever used. has bluetooth and ir and wifi so you can control absolutely everything. From your playstation to you tv, amp. I even added my remote control fan/heater to the number pads works great. Everything in my house on 1 remote.
Great form factor with lots of programable buttons. It can be a little much at first but some youtube research should set you straight:

No usb on my shield
Try minix, doesn't have designated buttons for apps, but great at everything else
I have a shield and bought a Harmony. I prefer it so much more
I use the G20 remote w gyroscope mouse built in. Does not have map able buttons though.
Depends on the model you have. It might be possible to use a hartmony or harmony hub, but without knowing what you have, it is hard to say
