Controlling TV using Google Home

by bartbergmans

I received my Philips 65OLED804 yesterday. It has Android TV (I updated it to the latest version) and I have found a setting that said "Switch on with Chromecast" that allows the TV to be switched on from a Chromecast app on my phone. But when I tell my Google Home to turn on the tv it just registers the command and does nothing. When I ask to play a show from Netflix on the tv it says that it's going to play and right after that it says that Google Home doesn't support Android TV yet. Is there anything I can setup to make it more compatible with Google Home?

That's weird, it does work with my Mi Box 3

Yeah my Philips TV has this completely useless feature where it goes to full on sleep mode about 5 minutes after turning it off, this can be seen by pinging your TV's IP address and watching it stop responding, sometimes it's more than 5 mins but never more than 20. This makes any kind of network service that could turn it on completely useless as nothing can communicate with it.

I'm just gonna plug an old CC into it when I get the chance.

Mine worked for a bit but has since stopped. Philips Android TV as well. It can turn it off but doesn't turn it on.

I have the Philips 55pos9002 and the same problems. Also it's not possible to cast to the TV when it has been off for a while. I think I will buy an external Chromecast and disable the built-in one soon.

Download Android TV remote app.

Hi guys you need to report this directly to Phillips, I have Phillips 65OLED803/12 and it's had continual hardware and software issues. Phillips tend to shrug off the some issue but the more people that report them the more serious they will take it. I'm on my 3rd TV set in 6 months because of faults

Don't let them fob you off. Philips has quality issues and software issues but fail to address them. They tend to just launch a new TV set rather than send software updates to address current issues.

I don't use my Philips to control the TV as I already have a Google home to do so. I haven't experienced any issues as such but I'm fully aware Philips has software issues that they aren't addressing!

I wonder what happens if you connect the tv to Ethernet? Ethernet has the concept of WOL or wake on lan which is something that does not work with WiFi. It may not be feasible for some depending on where tv is in relation to where your router is. You could cheat it with power line adapters but, they do add some overhead.

My TV is connected with an Ethernet cable. (My router is almost next to the TV)

The app has been abandoned by Google

I don't have a Philips tv, this has happened numerous times on NVIDIA Shield TV, I found resetting the Google app(if applicable) like you would on an Android phone the tapping the mic button to activate Google assistant within the tv fixed the power controls when using Google home.

If someone has a solution for this deep sleep problem I would be very happy... What a very annoying bug! It once worked but after a certain update the WoL was disabled for some reason...
