Samsung TV seems to lack certain buttons on the remote.
- If I regularly switch from Digital TV to Mi Box, do I have to always press Home button>Navigate several icons to select Source>Choose Mi box, or is there a shortcut on the remote that works similarly to Input button found on many other TVs remote?
- Do all buttons like Home/Apps works to control the Mi Box or the Home button opens the Samsung menu instead?
Samsung KS8000 owner here, was using my Samsung remote with my Shield TV and soundbar as HDMI CEC is a cruel mistress and it worked better than the shield remote (both ergonomically and just being consistent)
The Samsung remote had no home button that'd map to the Shield. Exiting apps largely required you press the back button 3-4 times to get out of an app. Very few apps (like Netflix) don't/won't exit using the back button and would force you to open the side menu and navigate to a "exit Netflix" option
Everything else worked fine, more or less. Long presses for contextual actions like rearranging the home screen took practice to time right.
I ultimately ended up buying cheap Fire TV's solely for usinf their voice remote (the one with a volume rocker) on my shield - with better success overall
The TV remote will always turn on the TV to its last settings. If you happen to be on the shield tv input - it'll wake the shield... otherwise you need to switch inputs manually.
Using a Sheild remote would instead wake the TV (and when configured to do so) and switch the TV input to the Shield TV's
