Yes if that box you have has an AMLogic S9xx chipset in it, you can run a really nice CoreELEC OS from a Sandisk or Samsung EVO U1 Class 10 microSDHC.

You can even dual boot.
The LibreELEC guys might have a desktop Linux image for such devices as well. Search their forums AMLogic section.
