So, i bought the 2019 shield to test out on my 950g, i have the 2017 shield, but honestly i see my self not really using it, the os on the tv is plenty quick for what i need, the upscaling on the 2019 is pretty crazy though, I do notice with the native os i get HDR on youtube and not with my shield. just wondering what other people think. Is it worth keeping? i dont game or anything , just some cinema hd and streaming apps, thanks
Virtually all mid to high end 2019 Series Sony TV's (not the A8G) now pack a much more powerful MediaTek chipset with a great, snappy ARM GPU - to run Android TV Oreo/Pie.
For those that do not game or use HD audio from Apps like Kodi / Plex and just Internet video streaming, there really is now no need to buy a NVIDIA Shield.
Plus modern Sony TV support 4K HDR YouTube/Play Movies and HLG HDR which the old chipset in the Shield cannot do. AI type picture Upscaling as well has no limitations on such TV's.
And one final point, smooth streaming of video playback from Apps is much better on a Sony TV which has class leading motion handling vs the Shield which frankly has poor Apps Frame Rate Matching.
It's now no longer a case of "just buy a Shield" because specific TV's are packing much powerful chipsets to run the Android TV OS. They are getting OS updates quicker now as well.
Why did you buy it I'll give you 50$ for it.
