Hi Everyone, I am happy to share, that ambilight modding is possible on non Philips Ambilight Android tvs. Apart from aerial TV and Netflix, so far everything is working as expected. The total conversation costed me around £35,and half of my day, but it worth every single penny. Enjoy :)

Just buy a second tv, put it behind the first and play the same thing. Boom.

Marcshall

Could you write a short post on how to approach this?

bladerunner198494

The problem is, it is still under development. Things that are working at the moment: everything in Android TV OS level, like application browser, the TV menu, YouTube, Spotify, vlc etc. (Netflix I cannot confirm, because I am not a subscriber). What is NOT working at the moment: normal aerial TV shows from TV input, any Hdmi input content, like playstation 3/4, xbox. There will be a solution for this as well, but I need time to figure out an efficient method for that, not to have box and cable jungle behind the TV. At the moment, I am using a specially coded and modified Arduino, not a raspberry pi! So no cable/box jungle behind the TV (apart from my video game console collection cables, but that's another story!)

You've gotta build and sell a device that does this or at least post a how to! I have my lights set to sound and have always dreamed of it doing this

JustLikeThat777

Looks like you're gonna be busy writing up a Guide lol....

Side note: The TV is a Sony Xf9005 49" UK model, running the latest Oreo Android versiom on it. The system consist of 190 LED's in total all around (61+61 on top/bottom, and 34+34 on sides).

Ohhhh I like that

Professor_Dr_Dr

Wait isn't this one of the solutions that doesn't work with netflix/Amazon prime because of the drm protection their videos have?

philmoeslim

Yea I have a similar setup. Only I have a hue smart hub with several smart bulbs around my house. Then for my TV I purchased the 40 or 80 ft rgb led strip. Put the strip behind my TV. Then you can use Philips hue sync to make it match what is on the tv. If anyone needs help or wants links to what I purchased dm me.

You can also install Kodi on AndroidTV, along with this Kodi/Hue plug-in. I’ve set this up and it works well.

Looks great!

Could you possibly do a short write up on the approach to diy?

FrizzIeFry

I have been checking various ambilight solutions 1 or 2 years ago and I got to say, your looks a lot better. It is much more defined and detailed.

One day I will do a project like this myself! (As in replicating what others have done and using existing software)

PogMoThoin22

Is that an LED strip? And the Hue Stream app?

If so how are you doing different colours along the LED strip? Mine works but only a single colour.

GGorast

Guide please. I would like to try it.

tungvu256

There are many guides on how to do this on a raspberry pi. I had no idea this is even possible with Android tv. Great job!

gawronix

Hi can I do that on Samsung QLED QE65Q67RAT ?
