Mi Box S stuck with boot loop after upgrading to official Android 9.0 update

by whoru07

Hey Guys,

I tried installing Android 9.0 official update on my Mi Box S, and now stuck with a boot loop. Any idea on how to resolve this?

Thanks.

Can you get into the recovery menu by holding 'OK' button (the circle in the middle of the directional pad) and the back button while it is booting up?

I have the same problem. Bought Mi Box S a week ago. I do not know what to do 😢

Does not enter the recovery menu.

Is it possible that the bluetooth remote got unpaired when the update failed and it is now impossible to enter recovery mode? If so, are there other options?

Ok I think I may have accidentally just found a solution. Try changing to a different HDMI input and see if that works. Worked for me After I was able to enter into recovery and wipe the cache.

So I sent the 2nd box back, they came back and said

after the inspection by our technician they found there is a custom ROM or unofficial apps caused that issue so by sending another box will not solve the issue

we have issued a full refund to your bank account, refund may take up to 5 days to appear in your bank statement

we apologise for any inconvenience this may caused and appreciate your patience and understanding

Makes no sense, did the update straight out of the box and why would they refund if it was a custom ROM ?

Anyway, off to order a shield TV with my refund !

A bit of advice peoples, do not disturb the android mibox s during the update. Let it download and install without disturbance ie, do not move remote or click remote etc...

I have successfully updated yesterday and all went smoothly, the android 9 is working well for me.

Hey guys, I’m in the same boat. It got bricked somehow but I’m able to enter recovery mode. How can I fix it or installs manually? Thanks in advance to everyone’s input!

Also, if you have an LG TV, disable the HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color for the input where your MiBox is connected. i just discovered that this was the problem for me that made it seem like it’s going into a boot loop but it actually wasn’t. The picture signal was just not transmitting through properly.

I have the same issue. I think that I accidentally interrupted the installation process by turning on my TV while it was not finished yet. So it got stuck in this boot loop.

Any further ideas how to get into the recovery mode? Thanks.

Mine did not like having a USB cable plugged in to a PC while upgrading. Removed it and now it seems to proceed normally.

How long should the update take ? It's been just rebooting over and over for more than an hour now

tinners654

Yeah gonna do that when they send me my 3rd box, lol. To be fair they were very nice about it

Wrong move. Android TV is different from the Android 9.0 OS. The Android TV is stable and the last security patch was in May 2019 and there is no other update available and please note, if the Android 9.0 did work, you would have a completely different interface like the knock off Android boxes.
