Superbowl in 4k on Android TV

by ryoung07

I checked Fox's website and can't tell if Android TV is a supported platform for 4K but it doesn't appear to be. Can anyone confirm? It appears FireTV is but Android TV isn't which doesn't make any sense to me.

Xbox doesn't appear to be either which is also weird.

AndroidTV is definitely listed on this page now:

Last I checked, Android TV wasn't supported, not even the shield. Sucks

It seems they list Roku and Amazon fire as the only two devices that they are letting do 4K HDR for the superbowl.

They list Apple TV 4K as 4K but not HDR.

AndroidTV seems lumped in with 'everything else' which is unclear if it's just 1080p or 4K.

FYI, their "4K" superbowl stream appears to be just a 1080p upscale anyway.

Are you set on Fox?

Fubo might be doing in 4K too, that's the only way I was able to see any regular season games in 4K.

Here are the devices that support 4K on the Fox Sports app. This article was created 01/03/2020.

TL;DR: No Android TV devices are supported.

I think they have an arrangement with Amazon to do it through the FireTV native interface, as they do every week. Its possible if you subscribe to the NFL app that it will do 4K on Android or Xbox, etc, but there will be no "native" stream like the FireTV. The platform really has nothing to do with it ... its whether you can access the stream or not.

It doesn't really matter anyway. 4K is just marketing hype. You will be perfectly fine with 1080P. Even SD would be fine on a smaller display.
