Been googling a lot, without succes. Basically I want to use an usb stick or usb hard drive, attached to my Philips tv, to record what’s currently playing on screen.
Does anyone know an app for this, or a workaround?

Tivi app has a pvr in it. however I have a Philips smart TV with an Android operating system 8.0 and it is giving me lots of difficulty with all kinds of different drives. if the drive connectivity wasn't an issue theoretically it would work. A workaround would be to have an Android TV box and do it through that system.but then what's the point in having a smart TV? I'm still trying to work this through and if I can figure it out I'll let you know. the hard drive keeps showing up as safely objective even though I'm not doing that. If you have a Philips or a shield TV it is likely you'll run into the same problem. Keep you posted.
The TV itself would need a record option built in. To my knowledge, there's not many apps for TVs with smart features. Also, are you recording from coax, HDMI, or other? Depending on what you're wanting to record, there may be solution, but gotta answer some follow up questions.
