If yes, how? I have a universal cheap tv remote was using with sony bravia basic, my new mi tv doesnt respond to it. The android app mi tv remote also doesnt respond either. Is there any setting, or it will not just work at all?

Doesn't look like this model has infrared port.
If you are talking about the Mi Box S then not without buying additional parts. It has no IR receiver built in. You'll need an IR receiver and a remote that can programmed into it.
(For example a FLIRC paired with a Logitech Harmony IR only remote. Of course a Harmony with a Hub would work, too.)
You can also try and turn on CEC on the TV and the Mi Box S. When I do this I can control everything but the "power on" and TV input change. Since I only use the box the TV is always on the right input and then I just press the power button on the original remote and that is the only time I have to touch it. The only thing it won't do is the long press of the "OK" (center) button.
