Stay on 8 as long as you can.

I have recently updated to Android 9 on MI Box S and it was glitchy at first. So I had to do a factory reset (saw it on some other thread here), its been smooth since then.

I just updated by wipe-install-wipe method I seen mentioned in another thread. So far everything is good.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading. I did it to get Prime Video, but I lost Hulu ...

Dont do it. My box has become sluggish, with video stuttering sometimes. And problems with decoding some stuff. I i dont want to factory erset my box, i use the FTP server app, and it doesnt work unless you format your external drive as internal. And i will lose everything on my HDD. Literally thoudsons of files. Windows cant read android drives. So i will lose 1 TB of files. Unless i find a program for windows that can ready android drives.

I don't think an update to the release has come out yet, so you will be getting "beta 3" as others have noted here. You may, or may not, see any of the problems mentioned in this sub.

There haven't been any official fixes to the issues noted in this sub if that is what you are asking.

I only experienced the following issues (and then exchanged my unit for one that hadn't been upgraded since I was within my return window)

1. On screen keyboard didn't work -- even after a factory reset -- couldn't navigate to any of the keys
2. Using the Live Channels app and the HDHomeRun all 720p stations were pixellated to the point you couldn't watch them. It was perfect before (and now again that I have downgraded with a new unit). (Also occurred with these apps: HDHomeRun app, VLC, Plex)

Other than that, I didn't see any other issues, but the Live Channels was what forced me to return my unit for a non-upgraded one.

I updated and initially had issue with Chromecast which was solved in no time. I shining had to uninstall and reinstall Chromecast app. I've not had any issues since. Runs smoothly! Love being able to watch Amazon Prime Video without having to switch back and forth to Roku. 90% of my viewing is YouTube. 5% Amazon Prime Video and 5% Netflix. Some HBO go from time to time.

Works as a charm for me (remember to reset Chromecast app). Also trueconf microfon is fixed for USB cameras like Logitech.

I upgraded, then cleared cache of most apps as I didn't want to do a full reset and everything works fine here.

If you don't need Amazon video keep your install and wait for the non beta release to install that (with the mandatory factory reset).

Personally I updated yesterday, it did fix 1 problem I had but brought 2 other with it: Casting didn't work - which I managed to fix with reinstall the chromecast app. Microphone doesn't work - which I didn't manage to fix. Drives me nuts.

I did the factory reset from the menu and still have problems. Should have stayed on 8. You guys talk about a hard reset. Please point me to more into on how to do it...

After upgrading at 9, i've got some stutter issues with netflix, never had it on 8.

If i do a factory reset and log in into netflix, everything works perfectly, but after i log in with my gmail account, it stutters every 5 seconds, tried everything.

My advice: if everything works perfectly on 8, don't upgrade.

Hi guys, I tried to update my Mi Box S and while installing the power was lost, when I connected the device again it keeps blinkink at the MI start screen without starting the android system. can anybody help me in this issue? By the way I tried to make a hard reset as mentioned in more than a forum and tried all the possible button combinations I found in these forums but with no success to access the hard reset screen. Anybody help will be more than appreciated.

I upgraded mine when it first released via non-beta channels. I haven't had any issues. Only a single data point, I know, but most without issues never post at all so ...
