[Suggestions] Media Center app to beautifully organize local movies

by Azzooa

Hi!

I'm new to the Android TV's and I'm searching a simple app to beautifully organize (covers, plots, ecc.) and play all my movies contained in an external HDD.

Any suggestions?

You have 3 good options.

Use a media center app like Kodi. Add the folders with your movies to the Kodi library, which will add all of the metadata @ movie posters, description, cast info, etc. You can also choose from different skins and customize the UI to your preference. IMO, Kodi is the best @ personal media.

Use a player app, like Archos, that pulls in the metadata. These are much simpler than Kodi, and quick to set up.

Run a media server @ Plex, Emby, or Jellyfin. (Plex server is already built in @ Nvidia Shield). You will need to use a web browser to manage your library settings from a website, but running a media server allows you to play your media on all of your devices.

Kodi.

You can Pick whichever Skin you want and also customise the way Covers, Plots etc are presented onscreen once you really roll up your sleeves and dig into it configuring and tweaking.

What player are you using? If you have a Shield TV Pro, it has a built in Plex server. Just connect the drive, tell plex where the media is and you're done, essentially.

Been using Plex for 5 years. Works great.

Been very happy with Plex. Stream anywhere with an internet connection for free.

For you, sounds like Kodi is the better option since you don't have an NVIDIA Shield.

Plex will do what you need, it will scan your files and automatically pull through poster art, subtitles, bios, ratings, casting, trailers, extras, etc. Just get the server installed on whatever your files are on, create a tv/movie library and point it to your folder with files and you should be good to go, provided your file naming and structure isn’t stupid.
