Android box to turn touch screen into tablet?

by sons_of_many_bitches

Ok so im looking at some POS software and the guy said it runs best on android tablets, instead of spending a fortune on small tablets I was wondering if I could just plug Android boxes into a touchscreen? Im unsure as 'Android TV' seems like a different platform to android (excuse my ignorance if Im wrong) as I have a Shield and there are lots of apps you cant download onto it.

I know POS here refers to Point-of-sale, but sid anyone else read it as piece-of-s*** initially?

You can sideload any app onto the Shield TV.

There are plenty of signage apps and POS apps that run natively on Android TV.

The main issue will be if the Android box will even work with the touchscreen. Even then, I doubt any of the boxes that runs true Android TV OS still work, and the cheaper ones based on the standard Android may not work either unless the kernel has the right driver which seems very unlikely. If you really want to go this route, try one first and test to see if it works, but you're probably much better off getting an actual tablet instead.

I would first test an Android phone with one of the monitors, just to make sure the touch screen functions work. If it does work, than any current Android box (mobile OS) or inexpensive Android tablet should work. If you don't need a larger screen, the Onn Android tablets from Walmart are fairly inexpensive.
