(Philips) Is my TV faulty or is the firmware terribly bad

by N1MPO

Hey everyone

A year and a half ago I bought online my 1st TV, it is a Philips 49PUS6412 which carries Android TV SO.

For a long time now, I've been having problems with Wi-Fi disconnection again and again, even when I tried direct plug to ethernet cable!

I checked recently and the firmware is up to date.

Was wondering if this is a common issue among Philips Android TV's or is just mine. And if there is any solution other than waiting for Philips/Android to fix the firmware.

EDITING for someone stumbling upon this. I managed to fix this by turning off Wi-Fi in the config menu and pluging the Ethernet cable. None other thing worked.

This happened to my tv aswell , I have a Sony Bravia XF80 and it was to do with the firmware. Sony asked to bring it in for repair but it was a software problem not supporting the router. Instead I found a workaround to it by buying a cheap Wifi repeater from aliexpress and all was good, no disconnections 😄

(Btw Sony released a firmware for this fix but it is not yet arrived to me OTA, I also dont have the equipment to manually install)

buy an Android box. TV software is almost always garbage. Mi box S has a great wifi chip for example, in 4 months i can't say i've had a single disconnect.

Try changing to Static IP in the settings. I had the same issue with my Phillips OLED and that seemed to fix it.

If you live in a densely populated area, this is very likely due to WiFi congestion. If you have an android phone or Windows Laptop:

  • Install WiFi Analyzer. ( Play Store - Microsoft Store ) (Instructions based on Android version of the app, so Windows might be slightly different.)
  • Stand near your TV with your phone or laptop and launch WiFi Analyzer.
  • Click the eye icon and choose Channel Graph.
  • Wait a minute or so to get a good reading.
  • See which channel is least populated between 1, 6, and 11. (Do not use other channels. The WiFi signal overlaps 2 channels in either direction, so 1, 6, and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels.)
  • Log into your router's management page (if you've got an ISP issued router/modem the web address and password will be on the bottom or side) and manually change the WiFi channel to the least populated WiFi channel to that you found in the previous step.

If you only had problems with wifi, I would say that check and change the wifi channel. I had problems with 5Ghz wifi and philips for a short while and channel change helped.

But if you also have ethernet problems then it might be something else.

I've got a similar problem but with my Samsung TV. First of all it won't do ethernet and Wifi at the same time. Second that huge slab of screen obscures the Wifi signal. I tried upgrading the Wifi to google mesh still no joy. Gave up bought a second hand Shield - all peachy. Just my 2c.

Same problem with mine. Tried different networks and made no difference. To get it running again I am having to disable and reenable WiFi, then it works for up to 40 mins before it has to be done again

Same thing with my Philips Android TV. I tried everything but eventually had to take it back.

My bravia was fixed with a new router and a factory reset on the tv.

I have a 49PUS7272 and the same problem. The Wifi connection drops out every couple days, for no apparant reason. Then I have to manually re-connect, and 2 or 3 days later, same thing. I have no idea why this keeps happening, but it seems a flaw with the tv. I even changed my router to use specific channels, else the tv wouldn't connect to the 5Ghz band at all.
