Verizon Stream TV

by LockeCPM4

Just got my Verizon Stream TV box today. It was an upgrade for my old and slow Nexus Player.

It was way faster than the Nexus Player. I noticed this immediately.

I like that the included remote also controls my TV, and setting it up was as quick as the Stream TV performing a scan of my TV hardware.

Every app loades quickly and all videos looked great.

I tested YouTube, Google Play movies, Netflix, Hulu, Plex and Amazon Prime Video

My one small gripe is the Verizon suggested channel that cannot be moved. Other than that, there was no bloatware to be found. This thing is nearly as stock as my Nexus Player and it runs Android 9.

I almost got a Mi Box until I read all the complaints about Android 9. I then decided to save up for a Shield, but I ultimately sprung for this as it was much cheaper, and they added Netflix support.

All in all I give this a 9/10. Anyone in the market for a new Android TV device, that doesn't want to pay $200 for a Shield, the Verizon Stream TV is a great buy

It can only be ordered online thru VZ link, correct?

BiggussDikkuss

It should be snappier vs Mi Box due to having a noticeably more powerful AMLogic S905X2 chipset:

Or just get the mi box for 20$ at least you have a chance at updates, good luck with VZ. The pie complaints are way overblown.

galyenrc

is it 4K rated / able?

Are you able to side load apps? Is gaming an option? Are there USB ports to support a controller or keyboard?

Will it passthrough the HD audio codecs? Will it play videos encoded with the VC-1 codec?

This is amazing! I already purchased like 3 nvidia sheilds and I need two more. It's too expensive since I'll be only using them on the Guest rooms.

So I just bought 2 Xiaomi mi box S from the recent walmart sale and been playing with it for the last 3 days. It doesn't cut it for me. The interlace/deinterlace issue with HDHomerun is sooo bad and live channels are randomly getting pixelated and chopping. I'm afraid I have to return them. I didn't even update it to Pie because live channels and PIE doesn't work well with the Xiaomi mibox S.

The only issue I have with the Verizon steam is the lack of USB ports. So I can't connect a FLIRC usb dongle and use a regular remote.

I want to make sure that my guest would use a remote that had the number pad on them.

I already have a harmony hub which I can try using with the Verizon Steram.

But just incase it doesn't work out, is there a full remote -- with number pad and doesn't have to be fancy -- that work natively with AndroidTV?

Also does the verizon steam tv have IR?

anyone think there might be a usb pads to tap into on the board? wonder if any tear down pictures exist.

Mine got delivered today. Looks like the LAN is only 10/100, but that should be good enough for me.

I bought this one and right of the bat I can't recommend it to anyone.

For whatever reason, the remote that came with it lost communication with the device -- since there is no physical reset button there is no way for you to factory reset the device.

I called verizon and they have ZERO clue how to get into recovery mode as the guy on the phone told me they don't have any internal documentation on how to do that.

Just beware! Right now I'm returning mine and I don't want a device I can't factory reset.

FYI, if you lose the remote -- youre SOL too.
