PiPup - Free and OpenSource app that allows displaying custom notifications on Android TV

by r3ddt2

The most common use-case is for sending notifications from a home-automation solution to your Android TV.

As shown on YouTube

Some example scenarios:

  • Show a snapshot of your camera on your TV (motion trigger)
  • Display a notification with the video of your camera when someone is at your door
  • Send a text notification when your dryer/washingmachine is ready

Some example clients:

Google Play App

No internet connection is necessary and no advertising is contained.

Without a client application or a home-automation solution which has an integration for PiPup this application will not be of any use.

I've looked for things like this in the past, for notifications from our baby cam, I'm excited to look at this and see if it'll work, thank you.

Thank you. I never wanted to install the other Android TV notification app for the same reasons you listed.

Does it have a SmartThings integration?

Can you adjust the look of the notifications? Like size and position of the image/video, or text positioning and placement?

Wow, nice! I am very intrigued! Can this work with the notifications from Ring video doorbells?

Ring currently sends text notifications (which would be cool to see on the TV) but they’re working on adding snapshot thumbnails to their notifications soon too.

For some reason I thought notifications "were not a thing" on AndroidTV... i.e. not possible

All I want is to see my phone notifications on my TV.

I can't believe Google still hasn't enabled this functionality natively. I should be able to get full visual feedback from Google Assistant as well. It's crazy they've developed all this technology and then just don't bother using it.

Can I send the notifications from the device to itself. Eg . Send notifications as a toast message from my Nvidia shield TV to itself so it acts a server and a client? Ive been needing this feature for about 5 years lol
