The one box to rule them all

by snuggl3ninja

I am seeking a Google certified Android TV box. 4k is not super important as I'm still on 1080p and will be for a while yet. The important part is that it runs as many of the following apps (all legit).

  1. Sky go
  2. Prime video
  3. Netflix
  4. Disney+
  5. BT Sports

I was hunting for a skystream 3+ but I've now been told they aren't official playstore apps (hence the certified requirement)

Edited: Thanks folks, the Shield it is.

I mean... Shield?!

Nvidia Shield is the best I have used. They keep it updated unlike smart tvs

PalebloodSky

I only recommend the Shield TV. It's been well supported with software and security updates from NVIDIA. Nothing else has had any sort of long-term support whatsoever.

The unquestioned #1 android TV box is a nVidia Shield, and it's not even close.

Mi box S / nvidia shield

For the price I'm thoroughly pleased with the Mi Box S. After disabling a few of the built in apps I don't use (showtime, hbo, etc) performance was snappy. Granted my use consists of only streaming from YTTV, Plex, and YTMusic, so nothing insane. I suspect as long as your media source is the device doing the transcoding you wouldn't run into any performance issues either. Pushes 4K just fine.

No Android TV box will run sky go. Though any android tv box will let you cast it from your phone.

Not Android certified, but Amazon firestick can run any Android app, amazing support and everything just works perfectly.

snuggl3ninja

Yeah I thought that but after the skystream 3+ twice bitten and all that. Will it also run Kodi?

redditerfan

Roku can do, no side-loading, no kodi.

TONS of options out there

You should get a smart tv. Since I got one I barely use my android box.
