Is android tv better than kodi?

by [deleted]

Hi guys, I'm newbie in terms of smart tv. We bought a tv last year that connects to the internet but we only use it to watch youtube other than movies and cable service.

I planned to buy mi box to try android tv as our tv is kind of boring but the courrier did not deliver it and returned to the seller. Now, I got an old pc that I refurbished but since we already have our main pc, I'm thinking to repurpose the old pc to HTPC. I already installed kodi/libreelec on it but I'm having hard time to use it. I think I have to subscrice to the services add ons before it work which I do not plan to do so. I'm looking to switch it to android tv instead but I'm wondering if I could stream movies and tv channels into it for free, or have any other suggestions?

Yeah, Android TV is far easier. Plus if you really want, you can run kodi on the Android tv too

Cannot compare apple to organge. Think of Android TV as both the HW and OS (like your HTPC), and Kodi as the app running on top of it.

P.S. Mi Box is just another device running Android TV OS, the same as your TV.

(Assuming your smart TV is an Android TV)

Kodi is a app that runs inside Android TV. Kodi has almost none if any paid addons available for it, I don't know where you may have been looking. There are plenty of free as well as paid streaming services available on Android TV. Kodi's main purpose is to play your own files, the streaming addons are an outside thing for the most part.

Kodi is an app, not an OS or device. Kodi runs on many OSes/devices, such as LibreELEC, Android TV, Raspberry Pi, etc.

If it was up to me I would've installed android os on the pc (of course dual boot with windows 10) connected the TV as monitor, got an cheap Bluetooth remote/or a wireless mouse. It'll give you windows applications as well as Android platform to work on.
